Since Judge made his MLB debut in 2016, he’s been a pitcher’s nightmare. At 6-foot-7 and 282 pounds, he has power to burn. And when he steps to the plate, an entire stadium perks up in anticipation. He’s the rare hitter that can make a pitching staff fear him, so much so that opposing pitchers aren’t even sure what to throw him.
To hone his craft, Judge visited Richard Schenck, a hitting instructor at D-BAT Hitting Facility in Peoria, Arizona. Schenck, who’s worked with the likes of Freddie Freeman and Paul Goldschmidt, spent a week with Judge, working him twice a day to refine his swing. He started by teaching him a command drill, in which he instructed Judge to get ready to swing but not load up or shift in the batter’s box until he said “go.” He then timed him to see how quickly he could react to a thrown ball.
Managing Court Proceedings
A judge’s primary responsibilities are to preside over legal proceedings and make decisions on cases, using their understanding of relevant statutes, case law, and legal precedents to reach a fair verdict. They also set schedules, manage case dockets, and oversee the conduct of attorneys and parties in the courtroom. Judges also write opinions explaining the legal reasoning behind their decision, which can serve as guidance for lower courts in similar cases. Depending on the level of court, judges may also travel to different locations for hearings or trials.
